Some Bayes estimators for the repairable system

چکیده

An impressive array of paper has been devoted to the reliability properties and the hazard rates of the order statistics along with IFR (increasing failure rate) and DFR (decreasing failure rate) property. However, studies relating to the Bayesian estimation on the repairable system along with IFR property of the failure time distribution and on the repair time distributions have received comparatively less attention. The choice of the loss function may be crucial. It has always been recognized that the most commonly used loss function, squared error loss function (SELF) is inappropriate in many situations. If the SELF is taken as a measure of inaccuracy then the resulting risk is often too sensitive to the assumptions about the behavior of the tail of the probability distribution. In addition, in some estimation problems overestimation is more serious than the underestimation, or vice-versa [7]. To deal with such cases an useful and flexible class of asymmetric loss function (LINEX loss function (LLF)) was introduced by Varian [13] for any parameter θ (when θ̂ is any estimator of the parameter θ) as

Empirical Bayes Estimators with Uncertainty Measures for NEF-QVF Populations

The paper proposes empirical Bayes (EB) estimators for simultaneous estimation of means in the natural exponential family (NEF) with quadratic variance functions (QVF) models. Morris (1982, 1983a) characterized the NEF-QVF distributions which include among others the binomial, Poisson and normal distributions. In addition to the EB estimators, we provide approximations to the MSE’s of t...

Classic and Bayes Shrinkage Estimation in Rayleigh Distribution Using a Point Guess Based on Censored Data

Introduction      In classical methods of statistics, the parameter of interest is estimated based on a random sample using natural estimators such as maximum likelihood or unbiased estimators (sample information). In practice,  the researcher has a prior information about the parameter in the form of a point guess value. Information in the guess value is called as nonsample information. Thomp...

Bayes Estimation for a Simple Step-stress Model with Type-I Censored Data from the Geometric Distribution

This paper focuses on a Bayes inference model for a simple step-stress life test using Type-I censored sample in a discrete set-up. Assuming the failure times at each stress level are geometrically distributed, the Bayes estimation problem of the parameters of interest is investigated in the both of point and interval approaches. To derive the Bayesian point estimators, some various balanced lo...

Some New Developments in Small Area Estimation

Small area estimation has received a lot of attention in recent years due to growing demand for reliable small area statistics. Traditional area-specific estimators may not provide adequate precision because sample sizes in small areas are seldom large enough. This makes it necessary to employ indirect estimators based on linking models. Basic area level and unit level models have been extensiv...

Truncated Linear Minimax Estimator of a Power of the Scale Parameter in a Lower- Bounded Parameter Space

Minimax estimation problems with restricted parameter space reached increasing interest within the last two decades Some authors derived minimax and admissible estimators of bounded parameters under squared error loss and scale invariant squared error loss In some truncated estimation problems the most natural estimator to be considered is the truncated version of a classic...

Estimating a Bounded Normal Mean Under the LINEX Loss Function

Let X be a random variable from a normal distribution with unknown mean θ and known variance σ2. In many practical situations, θ is known in advance to lie in an interval, say [−m,m], for some m > 0. As the usual estimator of θ, i.e., X under the LINEX loss function is inadmissible, finding some competitors for X becomes worthwhile. The only study in the literature considered the problem of min...
